Knottingley Trucks Background

Knottingley Trucks was established in 1962 as a Foden Service dealer owned by Foden Trucks Ltd.  Based in the town of Knottingley, West Yorkshire, it was taken over by the regional Foden dealer, Pelican Engineering in 1981.

In 1991, Knottingley Trucks took over the assets of the local Seddon Atkinson dealer, Comberhill, to become a Seddon Atkinson main dealer.  All our existing sales, service and parts managers joined the business in 1991 and this continuity of key personnel is one of the business’ greatest strengths.

In the years between 1991 and 2006, Seddon Atkinson changed from supplying a full range of commercial trucks to becoming a specialist supplier of municipal vehicles only.  Knottingley Trucks successfully adapted to this change and by the time Seddon Atkinson ceased production in 2006, Knottingley Trucks was by far the largest Seddon Atkinson dealer supplying 65% of Seddon’s total production to Municipal and Waste operators nationwide.

The skill and experience built up by Knottingley Trucks over 15 years of service to Municipal and Waste operators was immediately recognised by BMC as the most effective way of introducing their bespoke new low entry Municipal chassis into the UK.
